The world‍‍`s largest solar panel manufacturer ‍‍`Longhi‍‍` has decided to set up an office in Bangladesh and invest in solar power generation, said Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.

Representatives from some of China‍‍`s leading solar panel manufacturers visited Bangladesh in December at the invitation of the interim government‍‍`s chief advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. During that time, they explored the possibilities of investing in Bangladesh.

As part of the plan to develop Bangladesh into a manufacturing hub, Professor Yunus called on Chinese companies to relocate their manufacturing plants to Bangladesh.

Ambassador Yao Wen said that at least two of the companies visiting Bangladesh have decided to set up their offices and factories in Bangladesh, including Longyo.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen met with Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Sunday.

At that time, the ambassador said, ‍‍`The two Chinese companies will invest in Bangladesh very soon.‍‍`

Yao Wen said that since the fall of Sheikh Hasina‍‍`s authoritarian regime on August 5, Chinese companies have become the largest investors in Bangladesh.

He said that currently many Chinese companies are waiting to invest in Bangladesh and a special Chinese export processing zone will be launched soon.

He also said that the upcoming visit of the Chief Advisor to China will be the most important visit in the history of the 50-year-long relationship between the two countries. Bangladesh and China are going to deepen their relationship as ‍‍`trusted‍‍` and close friends.

Professor Yunus welcomed more Chinese investors to Bangladesh and said, "Bangladesh can be a leading manufacturing hub for companies that want to export products to Western countries."

He urged Chinese hospital chains to set up high-quality clinics here or build healthcare centers with Bangladeshi hospitals through joint investment.

The chief advisor said, "Bangladesh‍‍`s health sector needs a huge amount of investment. Now is the right time for Chinese hospital chains to build hospitals in Bangladesh."

Ambassador Yao Wen said that four hospitals in the Chinese city of Kunming have been designated for Bangladeshi patients and a group of Bangladeshis went there for treatment last week.

He also said that Peking University, one of the world‍‍`s best educational institutions, will confer an honorary doctorate degree on Professor Yunus during their visit and he will deliver a speech at the university.

This is Professor Yunus‍‍` first bilateral foreign visit after assuming office as the head of the interim government.

During his visit, he will attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), known as the ‍‍`Davos of the East‍‍`, where world leaders and executives from top companies meet every year to discuss global issues of importance.

Professor Yunus will deliver a lecture on ‍‍`Asia in a Changing World: Towards a Shared Future‍‍`. The session will also be attended by the Executive Vice Premier of China.

Bangladesh‍‍`s chief advisor will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28. The two countries will issue a joint statement after the meeting.
